Frank Schmidt-Hullmann

Frank Schmidt-Hullmann (IG BAU) Head of the international relations and European construction policies department.

German Trade Union for Building, Building cleaners and services, Forestry, Agriculture and the Environment (Industriegewerkschaft Bauen-Agrar-Umwelt - IG BAU). Born 1956 in Bremen. Worked for several companies as a trucker, printer, longshoreman and construction labourer from 1976 till 1983. From 1979 till 1983 chair of a sectoral shop steward subcommittee in the local branch of the public services trade union ÖTV in Bremen. Studied law (degree Ass. jur., University of Bremen 1983) and worked as an independent lawyer for several NGOs, works councils and trade union. Regional secretary of the GHK (then German wood workers sectoral union, merged with IG Metall in 2000) in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg from 1987 till 1992. In 1990 temporary assignment to Dresden (then still GDR) to found a GHK branch in the territory of Saxonia. Federal secretary of the GHK from 1992 till 1998, head of the organising dpt till 1994, thereafter International Secretary and head of the principal policy dpt. Co-founder of the national initiative of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC - worldwide eco-label for forestry) in Germany. Since 1998 International Secretary and head of the international and European dpt of IG BAU. Also official Rep of IG BAU in Brussels, provisional head of the European Migrant Workers Union (EMWU) and head of the joint ECMIN-project of BWI and EFBWW (European construction workers mobility information net - www.ecmin.efbww.org). Author and editor of several publications about migration policies, GATS, internal market and other policies of the EU.
