• To provide an update on the status of the ongoing Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations
• To highlight obstacles and opportunities in the final push for the conclusions of the agreement
• To reflect on the implications of the TPP agreement for the wider trade agenda
This session will highlight the content of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement negotiations which is scheduled to conclude shortly. These talks, which got underway in 2010, are some of the most complex trade negotiations ever attempted outside of the WTO and European Union. The rules and commitments negotiated in the TPP may serve as the baseline for future trade agreements going forward. This session will highlight some of the key obstacles to the conclusion and implementation of this agreement. It will also speculate on the implications of the TPP for the WTO and other trade agreements in the future.
