Session Objectives

The 8th WTO Ministerial Conference in 2011 saw the agreement of the LDC Services Waiver, which allows members to grant preferential treatment to services and service suppliers from LDCs. Although this represents a significant step for LDCs, the waiver itself does not confer any direct economic benefit unless it is operationalised in a commercially meaningful way and, so far, no waiver preferences have been granted. The session will present possible options for improving market access for LDCs through the waiver and by addressing supply side constraints. It will also provide a space for LDC Ministers and LDC trading partners to exchange views on the steps required to unlock and capitalise on the Services Waiver.
