The China Institute for WTO Studies of University of International Business and Economics is one of the oldest academic institutes engaging in the research of the GATT/WTO regime in China. Founded in May 1991, the Institute was crowned by the Chinese Ministry of Education as a “Key Research Institution of Humanities and Social Sciences in Universities” and the only one of its kind dedicated to the study of WTO.
The Institute focuses its research on the WTO’s rules system and operating mechanism, spreading over the wider spectrum from globalization to China’s opening up and reform. The Institute has brought together a top research team of law and economic scholars headed by Professor Zhang Hanlin and carried out a variety of academic activities, achieved a series of first-class research results and publications, such as the Encyclopedia of the WTO, The WTO and the future of China, Globalization and China’s strategy and policy. It has been widely recognized as the most important base and platform for academic innovation and communication in the WTO research area in China.
The Institute has made a lot of consultations for the central government, relevant ministries and local governments and become an influential think tank in the area of WTO and international economic relations. The Institute also confers doctoral and master degrees in world economy.
