Johannes Bernabe is a Senior Partner at Ocampo Manalo, a Manila-based law firm where he has specialised in project finance, mergers and acquisitions, investments and energy since his return to full-time law practice in 2010. Previous to this, he was Programme Coordinator for ICTSD’s programmes on Trade in Services and Legal Aspects of International Trade (2005-07) and later, an ICTSD Senior Associate (2008-10). Mr. Bernabe was the lead negotiator for the Philippine Mission to the WTO on, among others, Services trade, trade-related intellectual property rights and the Dispute Settlement Understanding from 1999-2005.
Mr. Bernabe has drawn on his wide experience on various issues in providing policy options on numerous trade-related technical assistance projects organised for the benefit of developing countries, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, member countries of the Islamic Development Bank and the group of least-developed countries in the WTO.
In his present guise, Mr. Bernabe has infused his interest in renewable energy with a deeper commitment by taking a financial stake in a few small- and medium-sized renewable energy companies in the Philippines which aim to provide electricity to under-served, far-flung communities.”
